West Point North Barracks

Corinthian Cast Stone - 2016

The client wanted to have a number of panels cast for the façade of their new North Barracks. The defining feature of the façade was the 12’ x 13’ insignia that was to be placed at the top of the barracks. We first obtained a 3D scan from a pre-existing smaller sculpture at West Point. The scan was closed and smoothed in Geomagic so that it could be modeled in Rhino. 5-axis toolpathing in Mastercam as well as other varied machining processes were used to carve the positive form in high density urethane foam for the silicone mold used to cast the final shape.
